Voting Record Index – 113th Congress

ABORTION POLICY WAS NOT A DOMINANT FOCUS in either house of the 113th Congress. in 2013. Nevertheless, those proposals and nominations which did have cause-of-Life implications and received recorded roll calls covered in Life Advocacy Briefing do collectively constitute a critical voting record. Our compilation is always a challenging product; we have endeavored to reflect accurately, for the benefit of our readers, the records of the men and women who serve America in the Capitol. Though we do not customarily publish our Index before the end of September, we can do so this year because Congress has recessed until after the November election. Votes taken during the lame-duck session will also be critical, and we will publish those Life-related roll calls – should there be any – in our weekly Life Advocacy Briefing as they occur.

    • The Speaker traditionally does not vote; Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) cast one vote in the 2013 Session of the 113th Congress: He voted “anti-Life” on roll call I.

Note: Roll Call I drew many votes from Members who normally vote “pro-Life.” We characterize it as an anti-Life vote and reported it as such at the time of the roll call, because many of those who voted against the motion did so because of its ending the brief parliamentary campaign to block ObamaCare funding by blocking the Continuing Appropriations resolution to reopen the government in Fiscal Year 2014. Life Advocacy and many other pro-life publications and organizations oppose funding ObamaCare because of its anti-Life agenda.

Note: Roll Call N drew many votes from Members who normally vote “pro-Life.” Life Advocacy considers this proposal a boost for radical feminism and salutes those Members who were courageous enough to vote against it.

Members who served only abbreviated terms during the 113th Congress:
AL:  Bonner 100% pro-life when voting in 2013 but did not vote on roll calls E,F or G and was no longer in office for subsequent votes.
FL: Radel 100% pro-life in 2013 but did not serve in 2014; he was replaced by Jolly, who voted only on N (anti-Life); Young 100% pro-life when voting but did not vote after roll call H and is now deceased.
LA: Alexander 100% pro-life when voting but no longer in office after roll call H; McAllister replaced him and voted mostly pro-life except for N.
MA: Clark joined the Congress in 2014, voted anti-life J,K,L,M and did not vote on roll call N.
NJ: Andrews voted consistently anti-Life but left office before N.
NC: Watt voted anti-Life but left office before 2014.
